How To Visualise A Putt

Visualise Your Putt for a better chance of making it

Visualising your putt before you hit the ball is one of the most important parts of golf.

It’s an essential skill that can help you become a better golfer. Visualising your putt involves more than just lining up your shot.

It also involves understanding the terrain, precise aiming, and hitting with the right amount of force.

Let’s review how to visualise a putt so that you can get out on the course and start improving your scores.

Understand the Terrain

The first step in visualising your putt is to understand the terrain.

This means taking a long look at where you are standing, what is around you, and how it affects your putt.

Look for any slopes or hills that will influence your ball’s path. Taking into account these variables will help you plan out exactly where to aim and how hard to hit the putt so that it gives you a better chance of sinking the putt.

Precise Aiming

Once you have taken into account all of the environmental factors around you, it’s time to start aiming precisely.

Take some practice strokes before actually taking your shot so that you can get a better feel for where exactly the ball needs to go.

This is key because if you don’t aim properly then there’s no way for the ball to reach its intended target, which means more putts overall!

Putting with Purpose

When you’re ready to hit the ball, make sure not to do it positively, with the right amount of distance

You want just enough power behind your putting stroke to keep it smooth and in tempo.

Over-hitting a putt can result in giving you tricky testers on the way back to the hole and using not enough power will always leave you short of the hole and essentially adding unnecessary shots to your score!

But either one of these is not easy to master every time. It takes decent practice to become more in command of your line and pace control.

Final Thoughts

Putting takes practice but when done correctly can be one of the most rewarding parts of golfing.

Visualising your putts from beginning to end, taking into account the slopes of the green, precise aiming, and hitting with the correct force, is essential for lower scores.

With this knowledge in hand, you can begin your journey towards becoming a better player

Good luck out there!
